In a see-saw contest out west, the San Francisco 49ers managed to fend off a 4th qaurter onslaught from the Detroit Lions.

With sweating palms and a tensed forehead, Kyle Shanahan avoided starting the 2018 season 0-2 in front of the home crowd at Levi Stadium. Infuriated by the offensive play calling that almost squandered a 17 point 4th quarter lead, Shannon began ordering in a repetitious flurry of stretch runs in effort to chew clock. I'll simply imply that the 49ers though victorious went out coached in the 4th quarter. Fox sports commentator Chris Spielman implied that the 49ers were being to cute when they squandered an opportunity to push the lead to 24. His reprove was in regards to a jet sweep play call that turned a red-zone 2nd & short into a 3rd & long forcing San Francisco to settle for 3 points. In a NFC West division that is currently being dominated by the LA Rams, the Niners will need to be more militant about their play calling. Surely the absence of HB Jerrick Mckinnon and Marquise Goodwin showed pivotal yesterday, but the play of HB Matt Breida was exceptionally adequate. A climatic ending to a game where San Fran led by 17 points is utterly inexcusable. They'll have to be relieved that they came out on top.

Lions HB LaGarrette Blount passionately shoved a 49ers player who laid hands on Matthew Stafford as he towed the sidelines in the 4th quarter Sunday. Though ejected, Blount's act of passion actually sparked a 14 point Detroit Lions scoring run that had the Lions just one play away from stealing this game on the road. Matthew Stafford's slow start was rectified by a heroic 4th quarter showing where tossed two TD's. As Detroit prepares to face the New England Patriots on Sunday Night, they have to think about the possibility of starting the 2018 season 0-3. This unwanted outcome has to be uttermost fear of new Head Coach Matt Patricia.
