The Cowboys were careless with the football and found themselves losing 20-0 in 1st quarter.
Dallas flipped the game around in the 2nd half behind the arm of QB Dak Prescott and the leg of Greg Zuerlein.
Zuerlein's first important kick was an onside kick that the Falcons avoided as if it was a live grenade. The next was a game-winning 46-yard field goal that finished a comeback that lasted 45 minutes.
The miraculous 40-39 win put the Cowboys in the lead in the NFC East, along with the Washington Football Team. Even better news for Dallas was that the hated Eagles lost and put themselves at 0-2.
The Cowboys shouldn't be too pleased with their win, though. In that disastrous 1st quarter, they fumbled the ball three times in a 10-play stretch. If not for a heroic 2nd half against a soft Atlanta defense, Dallas would've been blown out.
Prescott threw for 449 yards and a TD, with 3-rushing touchdowns. Ezekiel Elliot also rebounded after a tough 1st half for a total of 89 yards on 22 carries.
The Cowboys defense was ripped apart by the combo of Matt Ryan and Calvin Ridley, who combined for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan threw for 279 total yards and four touchdowns.
Dallas is lucky to be playing in one of, if not the weakest divisions in the NFL. The Cowboys need to avoid those early mistakes next week against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.
