A defensive match-up between the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars came down to the last minute of gameplay. Unfortunately, a Kaelin Clay punt muff with just 51 seconds to go did all but seal up a 0-1 start to the 2018 New York Giants season.

The Jaguars arrived to New York City with one thing in mind, come out victorious. Their new attire is eye catching, and their defensive attack was potent enough to hold HB Saquon Barkley and the Giants offense to just 15 points. Signs of success were present for both teams. For Jacksonville, QB Blake Bortles was managerial helping the offense convert 4/13 on 3rd downs and tossing 1 touchdown on the afternoon. The Jags are bullying defenses with Singleback, Strong, and Pistol formations on offense. They couple the physicality by forcing turnovers and three & outs on defense. Their methodology is simple, keep the opponents offense frustrated and uneasy while at the same time maximizing red zone opportunities and time of possession. While the Jags defense spent a lot of time on the field Sunday, they managed to outlast the youthful Giants and will rest up for the Patriots next week at home.

The Debut of Saquon Barkley was the ultimate highlight for the Giants in Week 1. Barkley 68 yards touchdown run granted the team some late game momentum with a 5 point 4th quarter deficit. Head Coach Pat Shurmur seems to be grasping the art of maximizing his teams strengths and besides a few errand Eli Manning throws and a muffed punt, he has to have liked his teams output. The Giants will face off against the Cowboys next week. Hopefully they will have some of their shortcomings revisited during the practice week.
