Lions dash Washington's comeback with last second FG



Highlights

Game Story

1st Half

  • Early in the first: D'Andre Swift hurdles a man to put the Lions at midfield, where Matt Stafford finds Marvin Hall for the 55 yard score (7-0 Lions)

  • Terry McLaurin runs for 27 yards to put Washington at the Lion's 22 yard line, but settle for a 38 field goal when Detroit's defense stepped up on a third down stop. (7-3)

  • Early in the second: Stafford finds Marvin Jones Jr. for the 27 yard score (14-3)

  • Alex Smith finds Cam Sims for the 13 yard pickup - a MAJOR fourth down conversion. The Football team was unable to convert on the drive and missed a 43 yard field goal

  • A late second quarter turnover forced by Detroit's Jamie Collins puts the Lions at midfield with one minute left. The Lions settle for a 53 yard field goal. (17-3 HALF)

2nd Half

  • D'Andre Swift picks up the 15 yard score on third down midway through the third (24-3)

  • Washington went for it on fourth and 13 at Detroit's 17, Logan Thomas got the first down to set up J.D. McKissic's 2 yard score (24-10)

  • Beginning of the fourth, Antonio Gibson picks up the two score to put Washington within seven (24-17)

  • Back to back 20+ yard plays by Steven Sims (23) and Thomas (27) had Washington knocking at the door to score. Gibson walks in from five yards to tie it up with just over six minutes on the clock (24-24)

  • 2:37 left: Matt Prater pushes the Lions ahead with a 37 yard field goal (27-24)

  • Two pass interference calls on Detroit after the two minute warning, edged Smith and Co. closer to the end zone

  • Washington's 41 yard field goal tied the game with 16 seconds left (27-27)

  • Matt Prater's 59 yard field goal sealed the Lions' victory (30-27 FINAL)
