NFC Divisional: Brees, Patience, & Payton

In a Chess match, the Saints managed to scheme their way to victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. The intelligence of Head Coach Sean Payton and skill of Drew Brees can be accredit for yet another Saints playoff victory.

Philadelphia started yesterdays contest assertive. QB Nick Foles was prepared to defend his renown as the Super Bowl MVP last season and a 14-0 start at the Mercedes Benz Superdome had the world convinced that he just might. Late in the 1st half, a 4th & goal call by Sean Payton helped get New Orleans their 1st touchdown of the game. After a few 1st downs, Philadelphia's following possession stalled out and the Saints were marching back into the red-zone.

With a 10-14 halftime deficit and T Jason Peters now sitting on the sideline, the Saints unleashed a wrath of pass rushing forcing Nick Foles to make quick inaccurate throws. In response, the Saints milked the clock winning the T.O.P statistic 37:50 to 22:10. With veteran Drew Brees at QB, certainly Sean Payton could have stuck with the passing attack but applied wisdom forced him to improvise. Payton thus relied on intermediate passing and power running from HB Mark Ingram to gain momentum. The Saints peaked this year with a league best 13-3 record. If New Orleans goes on to win the remainder of their games this post-season, they will have done it without having to play a single post-season football game outdoors. They'll welcome the Los Angeles Rams into town for the NFC Championship next weekend.
