In a game that didn't change the playoff picture, the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets fought in a battle of special teams.
Despite sitting at fourth place in the AFC East, Brian Flores consistently evokes spirit and drive from his players week in and week out. The Dolphins gave a strong effort in New York, but their red-zone inefficiency combined with a very questionable pass interference review cost them the game.
The Dolphins fell to the Jets on a game winning field goal, ironically after scoring 21 points all by way of field goals of their own. Brian Flores approached the referees following the kick, questioning a reviewed pass interference call from just a few plays earlier. Without a call on the field for pass interference, the replay booth was utilized and overturned the no-call, giving the Jets a fresh set of downs and continuing their drive(without the pass interference review, Sam Darnold would have been facing a 4th & 17 on Miami's 46 yard line). Another heartbreaking loss for Miami plants them firmly in fourth place, and is certainly a strong blow to the team's morale.
If this game doesn't encapsulate Miami's season as a whole, I don't know what does. But the Dolphins still find a way to fight, and keep most of their games to one score. Regardless of record, Brian Flores and the Dolphins have not quit on their season, as he remains one of the few bright spots of the 2019 Dolphins' campaign. With a couple winnable games in their closing stretch of the season, Miami fans look ahead to a top 5 draft selection with the hope they have left to garner a potential franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa, or a backfield fear-monger in Chase Young.
